Welcome to our web site and thanks for considering us.

Please note that your health insurance may pay some or all of our fees.

In addition, because we are licensed physicians, current tax laws usually allow you to deduct some or all of the costs of our treatment for your weight problem.

This page tells you in a nutshell what we think distinguishes us. You might find the other pages interesting too.

For starters...

Sunrise Health Medical Group has been the largest medical practice specializing in weight control diagnosis and treatment in Northern California for over twenty-five years.

     We offer:

  • A variety of prescription appetite suppressants for appetite relief and food cravings and cutting-edge medications not available elsewhere.

  • HMR®  Meal Replacement strategies that studies at the U. of Kentucky have shown to result in more weight loss than any comparable plan. We strongly encourage all of our patients to use meal replacements initially whether taking appetite suppressants or not.  This approach has repeatedly proven to be the fastest, easiest, surest way to lose weight.

                        and, in addition...

  • nutrition education
  • nutrition counseling
  • non-judgmental caring and support

We treat men, women, and children.

We provide and recruit patients for UCSF Medical School's obesity research studies.

We can refer you to local bariatric surgeons.  We can help you to lose any weight required to get you eligible for surgery, and we can help you at any time after surgery if you find you are regaining weight.

We do not believe that any particular treatment works for everyone.  We will find something

that will work for you.

Also...

We are active in various organizations working to combat the obesity epidemic. Some of these are:

  • Oakland Public Schools
  • California Medical Assoc. Foundation
  • The American Pediatric Association's Pediatric Obesity Interest Group (POIG)
  • The Center for Nutrition and Health at UCBerkeley
  • The Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments
  • Alameda Co. Public Health Department
  • Ethnic Health Institute

As doctors, we are likely to be different from other physicians you may have consulted about your weight. We are genuinely interested in weight problems and spend all of our professional time dealing with them.

We empathize with you and understand the daily problems and annoyances your weight causes you.

Likewise, our office staff is warm, caring, and highly skilled.  Every member of our staff will be sympathetic and will always treat you with respect.  No one in our offices will ever belittle you or your efforts to lose weight.
